THEME:
Theme - An image or words through which a unifying message is conveyed - and themes have been used throughout the history of Rotary International, it’s districts and it’s clubs.

The Rotary International theme for 2009-2010 is “The Future of Rotary is In Your Hands”, combined with a graphic depicting hands on all sides of the Rotary Symbol. One of the messages conveyed by this theme is the work of Rotary is conducted by individual members united in service through hands on projects. Without the hands-on projects of individual Rotarians and Rotary clubs, the work of our association ceases to impact our world and our communities.

Governor Roy has declared that this, our 53rd, annual conference shall first be a “Super Conference” much like that of the super bowl and that the theme shall be “Rotary Rocks”. The logo of the Super Conference is a super bowl type font surrounded by images of rocks. How clubs apply the theme is up to them and their interpretation of the theme. However, it should be applied with one singular goal in mind and that is to motivate members and their families to participate in the 2010 conference.

How is “Rotary Rocks” to be interpreted for application in displaying the works of your club in the House of Friendship”? One suggestion is that rocks and stones, are building blocks for a strong base on which to build. Past Rotary International President Cliff Dochterman in lighthearted presentations infers that our organization dates from the beginnings of man, although not called Rotary. So, from that costumes of pre-historic man in the persona of the Flintstone's and early works of man might be used. In the days of cave man where the future was truly in their hands to today’s Rotarian whose tools of the Rotary Foundation and our programs, the future of Rotary continues to be in our hands.

The term Rotary Rocks could also be interpreted as the evolution of social energy through music and image, as in it’s cool to be a Rotarian – “Rotary Rocks”. From the turn of the century and the formation of Rotary, period costumes around the time of Scott Joplin and other classic composers to crooners like Valley, Jolson, Sinatra, and Presley music might be used.
Some have indicated a look back over the history of the club and images of past projects to today’s projects on display.

The application of the conference theme is up to the individual and the club to decide. Remember, the Future of Rotary is in Your Hands and Rotary Rocks!
